How did you come up with the concept of "SELFISH"?

SELFISH is a collection of writing I did throughout the two years I was back in school during the pandemic. I was going through a major healing period of my life where I was grieving and accepting and reclaiming everything I had been through in my life for the first time. During those years I was in the cocoon and I wanted to become who I had always wanted to be. The title just came to me one day and I realized that I had to become selfish in order to stay alive. It also represents everything and everyone I was before the cocoon; I was self-ish, sort of myself but not quite.

Who makes the music in your SELFISH videos?

My partner Kian Dye made the music for this project.

Did you self-publish your poetry and prose book "Dreaming Amongst Memories"?

Yes. I taught myself how to edit and format in order to get the collection out. My friend Anna Pollock designed a stellar cover that makes me feel like a galactic sea witch rockstar.

 

Did you publish any other books before "Dreaming Amongst Memories"?

Yes I did. I self-published another poetry collection in 2018, but I don't share this collection anymore. It is such a precious project to me but I don't feel it's representative of my voice. I think I needed to write and self-publish that book to show myself I can, and it has served that purpose. I still draw inspiration from the collection and have used concepts from it in other works. It's just for me rather than for others.

Where did you go to college?

I went to Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies at Western Washington University where I created a concentration with the title "Women's Liberation Through the Act of Feminist Writing."

Do you enjoy other forms of art?

Oh yeah! I am also a photographer, singer, and painter. I want to learn pottery, guitar, embroidery, and interior design next.

When/where do you feel most whole? 

At the beach. The waves have to be loud and crashing and I need to have an open amount of time to just sit and breathe and watch the patterns of the wild life. Also when I am singing. And with my most beloved and cherished people who I can be goofy with.

What are your sun, moon and ascendant astrological signs?

Gemini sun, Taurus moon, Aries rising.

Toni Morrison, Maggie Rogers, Carmen Maria Machado, Lucy Dacus, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Bon Iver, Stevie Nicks, Lord Huron, Olivia Bolles, Florence Welch, The Staves, and Ilana Glazer & Abbi Jacobson.

What are you working on now? 

I am crafting my debut novel Queen of the Ruins.
